Bringing Critical Care to the Scene

Hampshire and Isle of Wight Air Ambulance is a life-saving charity delivering advanced critical care to seriously ill and injured patients across the region.

Operating 365 days a year, day and night, the team responds to emergencies including road traffic collisions, cardiac arrests and serious incidents. Their mission is simple but vital: bring hospital-level care directly to the patient when every second counts.

A Highly Skilled Critical Care Team

Each mission is supported by a specialist team of doctors, paramedics, pilots and dispatchers. Using advanced equipment and medication, they can carry out complex procedures at the scene.

From administering anaesthesia to performing emergency interventions, they effectively bring the hospital to the roadside, countryside or even a patient’s home.

Fast Response by Air and Road

The service operates both a helicopter and emergency response vehicles to reach patients as quickly as possible.

Their Airbus H135 helicopter can reach anywhere in Hampshire within 15 minutes and the Isle of Wight in around 20 minutes. It is equipped for night flying and can land in spaces as small as a tennis court.

On the ground, specialist response cars ensure the team can attend emergencies in all conditions, including when weather prevents flying. Around half of all missions are carried out by road, ensuring no patient is left without help.

Equipped for Every Situation

Both the helicopter and vehicles carry the same level of advanced medical equipment. This includes blood products, defibrillators and monitoring systems that track vital signs in real time.

This allows the team to deliver immediate, life-saving treatment before a patient even reaches hospital.

As a charity, Hampshire and Isle of Wight Air Ambulance relies entirely on public support. It costs £17,750 a day to keep the service running.

Since launching in 2007, the team has responded to more than 20,000 emergencies, giving thousands of people the best possible chance of survival and recovery.
