Beginner Swing Jive Courses
The Absolute Beginners Swing Jive course runs for 10 weeks and teaches the essential steps and moves needed to start social dancing.
There are three beginner course terms throughout the year, starting in January, April and September. Each covers the essential foundations while introducing different moves to keep learning varied.
Jive ‘n’ Boogie recommends progressing from a Beginners course into its Beginners EXTRA course. Dancers can then move into Intermediate courses as their confidence and ability grow.
More Than Just Dance Lessons
One of the things that makes Jive ‘n’ Boogie different is its social side.
Students are encouraged to get onto the dance floor outside their regular lessons, helping them practise while meeting other dancers.
Jive ‘n’ Boogie organises regular social dance events and practice sessions throughout the month. Students can also ‘Class Hop’ if they cannot attend their usual class.
The music is a big part of the experience, with Rhythm & Blues, authentic 1940s Swing and Roots Rock & Roll featuring across classes and events.
Social Dance Nights and Events
Once you’ve learnt a few moves, there are plenty of opportunities to use them.
Jive ‘n’ Boogie runs regular Friday evening record hops, social dances, live-band Saturday Specials and relaxed practice evenings.
Suzie Q’s Friday nights take place at Swing Jive n Boogie Portsmouth at Havant Ex-Servicemen’s Club, with authentic Swing, Rhythm & Blues and Rock ‘n’ Roll music.
There are also informal ‘Messaround’ evenings where dancers can practise, socialise and ask instructors or Dance Buddies for help with their moves.
