A Historic Pub with Titanic Connections
The Platform Tavern dates back to 1873. It sits against the Old Town wall built around 1350 and takes its name from the nearby quay known as “The Platform”, once home to a gun battery.
The pub has strong maritime roots. Dockers and seamen once drank ale brewed onsite. One notable guest was James McGrady, the final victim of the 1912 Titanic disaster to be recovered. His last known address was the Platform Tavern.
The pub even features in James Cameron’s film Titanic, as it directly overlooked Dock Berth 44 where the ship was moored.
Few pubs in Hampshire can match that history.
